Why Rent a Condo or House in Ari?

Ari or ‘Aree’ is a quiet and leafy neighbourhood in northern Bangkok, on the Sukhumvit BTS line. Over the past few years the development and popularity of the area have increased hugely, with many expats finding it a relaxing haven from the busy city life.

Although still quiet in comparison to Sukhumvit alternatives, there are still enough coffee shops, restaurants, and shops to allow Ari to be completely self contained.

If you’re looking to rent a condo or apartment in Ari there are plenty to choose from, so keep reading for more information about the area.

Why is Ari so Popular?

There are a few main factors that make Ari such a desirable area to live in.

One is the location; it has its own BTS station which is in walking distance to most of the condos and apartments in the area, giving easy access to Sukhumvit to the south and to Mochit and beyond going north. Many UN workers choose Ari due to the relative proximity of the UN offices. The same for international school teachers from Harrow and St Andrews.

Despite the convenience of Ari, it’s still a quiet neighbourhood with a local feel. There is a great mix of Thai and expat residents and the area is fairly family orientated. There aren’t many chain restaurants or shops, but plenty of locally owned independent businesses which gain great support.

Ari is a foodies paradise! The street vendors close to the BTS are semi-famous for quality food served from morning til night. There are also higher end restaurants, picturesque coffee shops, and swanky cocktail bars dotted all over the place. You’re never lacking options in Ari!

History of Ari

The nearby area of Sanampao is home to a large army base, and there is a strong connection between Ari and the military. In the past, military personnel were allocated land in the area and many of the houses are still owned by military families.

With such a strong (and wealthy) community, development of the area has not been welcomed at the same pace as other areas in terms of high-rise buildings and shopping malls. This has helped the area to keep it’s uniquely local feel.

However in the past decade the area has given in to a degree of development with condos from popular developers Noble and SC Assets building a few large condominiums in Ari. This has been met with mixed reactions from local residents, some welcoming the influx of business and some preferring to keep things as they were.

Where to Rent in Ari?

Although Ari isn’t as densely populated with condos and apartments for rent as some more downtown areas, there are still plenty of good options. Finding available rooms isn’t always easy though, so it’s best to start looking a couple of months before you intend to move. We can then find rooms becoming available to help you get first choice.

Affordable

  • Centric Scene - an older, low-rise building on Ari Soi 2. Don’t expect luxury, but the rooms are big and comfortable and the open air swimming pool is great. Together with the location and price, this is a great choice
  • The Fine - A little further from the BTS this building has access from both Soi 3 and Soi 4. It’s a larger building offering affordable 1 and 2 bedroom units with swimming pool and tuk tuk to the BTS station.

Mid-Range

  • Noble Reflex - Perhaps the best location to live, Reflex is right on the main road with everything you need within a 5 minute walk. The gym and pool are excellent and rooms are larger than average. The only downside can be traffic noise if you’re facing the main road.
  • Noble Re:D - this is a newer building, even closer to the BTS and with even better facilities. The rooms are higher quality but as with most new buildings, slightly smaller. Very popular amongst professional singles and couples.
  • Vertical Aree - Another high-rise on Ari Soi 1. Excellent facilities and easy access to Ari Samphan are the good points, slightly smaller rooms are the downside. But great deals are often available.

High-End

  • Le Monaco - A luxury building on Pahanyothin soi 11. A little further from the centre of Ari but still only a short walk. The design of the units is beautiful and functional, with 2 beds over 120sqm and 3 beds from 160sqm+. A rare combination of modern and spacious. If you like to cook you’ll love the kitchens! Prices vary but can be surprisingly reasonable.
  • The Signature - very nice low-rise right in the middle of Ari. Units are huge and very high quality, but not easy to find anything available.

Pet-Friendly Condos and Apartments in Ari

Trying to find a pet-friendly condo for rent anywhere in Bangkok is often a struggle, and given that there aren’t as many buildings in this area, Ari is no exception. While some owners may turn a blind eye to cats, it’s very hard to find somewhere to allow a dog.

The most popular option is Baan Yoswasdi, a large apartment building on Pahanyothin 7 allowing cats and dogs. There are large 2 and 3 bedroom units but due to the popularity there isn’t always anything available. If you need to know when a room will become vacant then let us know and we’ll check for you.

Houses to Rent in Ari

Renting a house in Ari is a dream for many people. The area is quiet and pleasant and offers a respite from traffic and crowds we all associate with Bangkok.

As Ari is such a popular area amongst families, there is a high demand for houses with more space and gardens. While at first glance it may seem like there are lots of houses for rent in Ari, it’s often difficult to find one available.

However we do successfully rent many in the area and have a good network of landlords in Ari so if you can’t see what you’re looking for on our website then please call us to let us know you’re interested and we’ll search on your behalf.

Points of Interest in Ari

Ari really is a great place to live with far too many wonderful shops, restaurants, and bars to list. However here are just a few of the reasons that make living in Ari so enjoyable.

The street food vendors on the Pahanyothin 7 side of the BTS station are renowned in the area for being consistently delicious and cheap. With all of the traditional Thai meals and snacks you would expect lined up along the street, they even get customers from all over Bangkok coming to visit. Recommend the pork satay - just 100 baht for 20 sticks!

DD Fitness on Soi 1 is a brilliant gym with a large and varied selection of machines, free weights, treadmills, and everything else you need to stay fit and healthy. They offer plenty of classes from zumba to boxercise to yoga, and all are included in the (very modest) membership fee. If you’re new to the area and would like to join then let us introduce you for a special offer.

Newly opened Gump is a ‘community space’ mainly full of very instagram-able food and drink venues. Expect bubble tea, korean bbq, and colourful dessert shops - as well as lots of amatuer modelling shoots :)

Salt is a fine dining and cocktail restaurant on Ari Soi 4. Apart from the wide range of high quality food and premium drinks, Salt has a great ambience with inside or outside seating available. Always popular amongst Thais and foreigners, we recommend you give it a try.

The British Early Years Centre in nearby Saphankwai is an international kindergarten offering British foundation curriculum to small classes. Healthy food, social awareness, and relevant life skills are high on the school’s priorities, making it a very popular choice for parents in the area.
